How long should I keep my tax records for?

The IRS states you should keep your records for 3 years from the date you filed your original return OR 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. If you file a claim for a loss from worthless securities or bad debt deduction, you should keep them for 7 years. You should know: in the event of fraud, the IRS can go back indefinitely.

What is the filing deadline to file my taxes?

For Tax Year 2023, the deadline to file and pay your taxes is April 15, 2024 for individuals.
